RESUME
about me
Abner is a storyteller in many forms. He works for theater, film and television. A Theater Arts Academic and Artistic Excellence Awardee of the Philippine High School for the Arts, Abner also finished Arts Management at the De La Salle- College of St. Benilde under the School of Design and Arts grant. For the past decade, his works have received citations, nominations and awards from Philstage Gawad Buhay, ALIW, MYX, KBP, Star Awards among others.
As a theater artist, he has worked with respected companies such as the CCP’s Tanghalang Pilipino, PETA, Gantimpala and Scotland’s Theater Babel and others. His work as an actor ranges from doing straight plays of the Virgin Laboratory festival to touring musicals for young audiences (Lola Basyang, Batang Rizal) and site-specific performances. He has also tackled roles from the classics (adaptations of King Lear, Romeo and Juliet, etc.) to contemporary materials (Games People Play) and devised performances (Sipat Lawin). He is part of award-winning TV shows like Katipunan, Amaya, Batibot and critically-acclaimed Heneral Luna and Gloc-9’ Sirena music video. He is known as “Kuya Fidel” for TV5 channel Batibot revival. At CCP, he is known as “Kuya Art” for Arts Online Lecture Series.
As a theater-maker, he has directed devised, musical and straight plays for for Sipat Lawin, Miriam College, Ateneo De Manila University, Tanghalang Pilipino and devised works for BLACK CANVAS, a multi-arts group for creative collaborations which founded since 2014. Abner facilitates theater training and development for the theater teachers all over Philippines partnering with NCCA, CCP and Department of Education. He has also performed stories and conducted arts therapy sessions for schools, Muslim and Christian communities, Sendong, Yolanda and Marawi survivors, to cancer patients and to his nephews and nieces. Abner is very inspired in developing creative and responsible Filipinos through the arts.
